This article explains how Shopping Lists help your family collect, organize, and complete grocery items together.
Overview
Shopping Lists are shared across your family. Family members can add items, update details, and mark items as purchased from the Nori app, Nori Web, or Nori Family Hub when available.
Lists and categories
Shopping Lists can include a default list and additional lists you create, such as Costco, Walmart, or Party Supplies.
Inside a list, items can be grouped by category. Categories can help you scan the list faster while shopping.
Add an item
You can add an item from Shopping List using the quick create bar.
- Open Shopping List.
- Choose the list you want to add to, if you use more than one list.
- Tap the + button or the quick create input field.
- Type the item name. You can include quantity and unit in the same line, such as 2 lb apples.
- Nori will automatically separate the item name, quantity, and unit when possible.
- Press Enter or tap the add button to save the item.
- To add more details, tap the expand button to open the detail editor.
- In the detail editor, you can edit the item name, quantity, unit, category, attachment, description, and other item details.
Nori may suggest common items while you type and may assign a category or icon automatically.
Edit item details
- Item name
- Quantity and unit
- Category
- Description
- Attached photos, up to 3 images with a 10 MB limit for each image
- Source recipe or meal, when the item came from a recipe or Meal Plan
How matching and merging works
- Items with the same name and same unit in the same list may merge.
- The same item can exist separately in different lists.
- If an item has no unit and no quantity, it may merge with a similar item.
- If an item has a quantity but no unit, it is kept separate from items with units.
- Changing an item's unit later does not always merge it into another item.
Mark items as purchased
Tap the completion circle to mark an item as purchased. Purchased items move into the Purchased section after a short delay.
Purchased items do not clear automatically, so you can still review what was bought.
Add items from Recipes and Meal Plan
Recipes and Meal Plan can add ingredients to Shopping List. Meal Plan items usually go to the default list unless you choose another list in the sync prompt.
When ingredients are added from Meal Plan, Nori may add the item name without a quantity or unit if the source does not have a useful quantity.
Add items with AI
You can ask Nori AI to add shopping items. If you do not name a specific list, Nori adds the items to the default list.
Order groceries
If an order or grocery partner option is shown in your app, you may be able to choose shopping items and continue to a third-party grocery service, such as Instacart. Final item matching, substitutions, checkout, payment, and delivery happen with that service.
